Magical Night @ Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios Singapore is having an “After Hours” event where they features the Lake Hollywood Spectacular show as well as Dine and Shop at the Hollywood zone from 7:00pm to 10:00pm on every Friday and Saturday. Guess what, the entrance fee is only S$5.00 per person and this will be a great bargain for those who just wanted to go in and have a feel of the atmosphere but not rather on those exciting rides.

With this valuable offer, last Saturday our usual group decided to organize a trip to USS to explore what they have in the theme park. I am shared that every one of us has an enjoyable night moving around the park and the kids are so overwhelming with the fireworks performance that they yield for more.

You can purchase the limited same day entry ticket from the ticket booths located outside the Universal Studios Singapore (USS) entrance where they starting selling it at 6.30pm onwards. So do go earlier to avoid disappointment if you are going to catch the Fireworks performance that is available only on every Saturday night.

As this is the “After Hour” ticket, we can’t proceed far in to the other area of the park, except around some parts of the Madagascar and area, Hollywood and New York where you can take photos and visit some of the gift stores and restaurants.

This is an amazing HUGE pizza from “Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor” that is a must-stop eatery for those who loves traditional Italian pizzas and pastas. Too bad, we give this a missed because we had already tried “Mel’s Drive-In” burgers before spotting the pizza. Perhaps next round…..

Are you tired after the walk? Want to take a cab?

Beautiful view from the Lake Hollywood before the Fireworks.

Every Saturday night at 9:30pm you’ll get to watch the Lake Hollywood Spectacular which is an incredible new show where you will see beautiful fireworks burst across the night sky right in front of you!

Fireworks!!!

If you want a good spot to catch the fantastic view of the fireworks or take photographs during the performance, remember to secure a seat at the viewing area just outside “Mel’s Drive-In” restaurant at least 30 – 45 minutes before the show starts at 9.30pm.

Underwater World & Dolphin Lagoon, Sentosa Singapore

Let's continue with our recent Sentosa trip from that Candylicious post last week. Since it was a rainy day we can’t do much of the outdoor activities except to stick with some in-door venture. Since AY and her group were keen to visit the Underwater World, we decided to get the 3-In-1 park tickets, which consists of Underwater World, Dolphin Lagoon and Butterfly and Insect Kingdom.

Underwater World Singapore (UWS) is situated on Sentosa Island and it is a unique and well-known oceanarium showcasing some 2500 marine life of 250 species from around the regions. Since its opening in 1991 till now, about 30 million of visitors have visited this exhibits and the UWS is always actively involved in regular product renewal and program innovation too. And this round it has being a year and a half since our last visit to the UWS and we do find some changes and new attractions added in it as well.

Look at this creature! Can you guess what is this?

These are some of the beautiful "Leafy SeaDragon" at Mid-foyer level. They are given this due to its resemblance to the mythical dragon and the lobes of skin that grow on them also act as camouflage, giving it the appearance of seaweed.

This time round we managed to catch a glimpse of the all-new Dolphin Lagoon which has being moved to its’ new location next to the Underworld World that completes a seamless journey of discovery into the ocean's depths.

Candy World @ Sentosa

Look at this!!!!! Isn't it beautiful with all the eye-catching “Lollies” hanging high up on the tree? My first sight on it was at a drizzling morning, which makes this a perfect and cooling Christmas atmosphere. This is Asia’s largest candy store known as "Candylicious" that newly opened at Resorts World Sentosa, opposite Universal Studios(USS).

Last week, I have friends coming over from Penang, Malaysia for a short trip and Sentosa is always one of the must visit attractions for tourists too. Although the weather for that day was not really good (as it has being raining on and off for the whole day) and the tickets for Universal Studios were Sold Out for the weekends, I am glad that everyone till enjoyed the rest of the attraction around the area.

Before Candylicious, Hershey's Chocolate World has already set their foot on Resort World where they store is just a stone throw beside USS.

If you are a chocolate lover, I guaranty that you won’t leave the store without grab a bag or so as there are full of verities of chocolate for your selection.

Garrett Popcorn at Resort World Singapore offers a wide range of popcorn choices from Cashew Caramel Crisp, Pecan Caramel Crisp, Cheese Corn and etc. So don’t miss this out too when you walk pass Hershey's Chocolate World, you can also try some sample before getting some.

Kite Festival 2010 @ Marina Bay

Last Saturday, after our monthly food outing at Cafe De Hong Kong, we had a great time of kite flying session at Marina Barrage. Although we have being there for a few times, but this is the very first time we have hands-on flying kite together with so many kite lovers there.

For your information, the once a year Kite Festival is back again this year which is on this coming weekend, 18th & 19th September 2010. This year event is held at The Promontory @ Marina Bay, where you can find more details on the map and information HERE.

But if you can't make it on either of the two dates shown above, you can always drop-by the Marina Barrage and join those kite lovers and enjoy the beautiful sight of the kites flying in the sky. You can access to the barrage by public transport bus 400 or shuttle service by the barrage itself near Marina Bay MRT station.

It's a very fruitful trip for everyone of us and Rey really enjoys himself. Look he can even fly the kite himself without any of our help despite with a little setback that he encounter.

These are two of the lovely sunset and night photos that I have captured. Admiring the Singapore Flyer at opposite end instead of boarding it and look far to the Barrage.

Love this "Postcard" layout photo, even though it might look slightly darker on the buildings. Must brush up on my night mode photo shoot skill now. For more photos of our kite flying trip, you can refer HERE. Posted by Picasa

Singapore Night Safari

Since we have the discount booklet given from the National Day goodies bag, we decided to make use of the 50% Admission discount coupon to visit the Singapore Night Safari. And from our last visit that is about 3 years back, this round we indeed caught up with more highlights and walks.

The retail outlets, restaurants and ticketing booths at the Night Safari opens around 6.00pm while the park itself opens daily from 7.30pm – 12.00mm.

If you are there early, perhaps you can grab some burger or pasta from "Bongo Burgers", if not you can try some of the local Asian/Indian Buffet from "Ulu Ulu" safari restaurant near the entrance of the park. Or if you already had your dinner and prefer to have something sweet and cooling maybe you can consider either getting a cup of yummy fruity sorbet or ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s.

At this Entrance Plaza you can see live Thumbuakar Performance at different time slots like: 7.00pm, 8.00pm and 9.00pm where you can see human torches as they perform incredible fire-eating stunts. And if you missed the performance, you can always stay around and take photos with some star animals or the performers too.

The best timing is to arrived at the venue before 7.00pm so that you can catch up with the 1st Creature of the Night Show at 7.30pm before enjoying the rest of your Night Safari adventure through tram ride or foot walk. As for us since we are late for the 1st Showtime, we decided to explore by strolling through the cool night breeze from “Fishing Cat Trail” all the way pass “Leopard Trail” to East Lodge for the tram ride back to the main entrance to catch the 9.30pm show.

Along the Fish Cat Trail, we spot this "Fishing Cat" waiting patiently on a tree branch near the edge of the water and it will lunge into the water if it seems a fish swim near.

Other inhabitants along this trail include the pangolin, playful and noisy small-clawed otters, Indian gharials and the largest bat in the world - the Malayan Flying Fox and Pelican too.

Not far down the Leopard Trail you will be able to have a close view which is only a window glass apart with the Leopard. Other interesting catch such as Golden Cats, Porcupine and Giant Flying Squirrels and etc can be found along this trail too.

After the walking through the exploring trails, you might want to consider have some snacks, alcoholic beverages or drinks in this most scenic area of the Night Safari known as "Z'bar".

After some light refreshment and re-charge at the stop-over, it's time to hop on board the tram ride at the East Lodge tram station, now let’s sit back relax on a 45 minutes tram ride with commentary across a landscape that is full of dramatically changes. Eg:- At the Himalayan Foothills, look out for Himalayan Tahr, Bharal, and Himalayan Griffon vultures. Whereas the Indian Subcontinent features the striped hyena, Asian lion and the sloth bear. Each and every of the sectors will sure to bring a close encounter between you and the wildlife animals.

Along the Indo-Malayan Region, you can see the Malayan Tigers that are protected species, with 2,000 individuals in the nature reserves and national parks of Malaysia and Thailand.

Creatures of the Night Show is the highlight event of this park and it consists of the world’s finest animal presentations with a 30 minutes of non-stop action on their star animals, otters, binturongs, raccoons, wolves, hyenas and many more that will definitely amaze you with their predatory and survival instincts.

Venue: Amphitheatre
Daily: 7.30pm, 8.30pm, 9.30pm & *10.30pm (*Fri, Sat & eve of Public Holiday)

Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant offers a sumptuous buffet or A La Carte with a range of Asian and local cuisine in their rustic Kampong setting. You can find all sorts of local dishes such as Chili Crab, Sambal Stingray, Satay, Chicken Biryani Set, Chinese Cze Cha or dessert such as ice-kachang, red ruby and etc.

This is the Chicken Biryani Set that is served in the Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant. Look at these, isn't it look great and makes you drool over it. For more details on how to get to the Night Safari, click on the link HERE. Posted by Picasa
