Khoon Kee Tasty Prawn Mee

Those working or staying around Redhill Lane Hawker Center, I am sure you have either tried or saw this "Khoon Kee Tasty Prawn Mee" stall which selling prawn mee, pork tail soup and char kway tiao. This stall also has another outlet in Henderson Road known as "Tasty Prawn Mee". Khoon Kee has both soup and dried version of this yummy Prawn Mee. And take a look at this bowl of Soup version Prawn Noodles, usually some stalls will half the prawns and served it with the shell stick on. But here, the stall owner insists to use whole prawn to retain it's flavour and crunchiness, he is also very thoughtful to remove the back shell off for the convenient of customer to save the trouble of removing the shell.

I guess the key point of to a bowl of delicious soup prawn mee lies on it's broth. A bowl of tasty prawn broth must be full of flavour and sweet which goes well with the noodles and other side ingredients. I must comment that their prawn broth is really very delicious which according to the stall owner he used around a few kilograms of prawn head shells to simmer the broth together with pork ribs, peppercorns and etc for at least 3 hours or more. No wonder this makes their broth taste even better than some other famous Prawn Mee stalls around.

A bowl of S$3.00 Dried Prawn Mee comes with two big sea prawns and a piece of pork rib whereas if you are looking for something more, then go for the S$4.00 bowl where you can more noodles, 3 “Fat & Juicy” crunchy sea prawns with a piece of soft and tender pork rib to fill your huge appetite. And a good dried Prawn Mee all depends on it's chilli and sauce combination. According to Misstamchiak, their dried chilli is good with that extra spicy flavour to enhance the overall taste.


To our surprised the stall owner used to be a Japanese Chef in local restaurants as well as countries like Australia, New York, Italy and etc. And he strongly believed that a bowl of delicious food starts from it presentation whereby most customers will go for the presentation of the food before decided whether to queue for the food.

Singapore Chinese Dialect Heritage Feast

10 days of the Singapore Food Festival 2010 event with Clarke Quay Food Street functioning 9 days at Clarke Quay Read Bridge has marked it's ending with this Singapore Chinese Dialect Heritage Feast that is held on 25 July 2010 .

During that day, the food street market is transformed into a Chinese Dialect Heritage Buffets with 5 buffet lines that consists over 100 varieties of yummy dialect food. And some of which we might not even get to eat it often or in Singapore too.

Gim Tim (click HERE for details) provides all the Hokkien Dialect Cuisines for this year Food Festival Heritage Feast where you can find some of the famous dishes such as:- Fish Maw Potage, Hokkien Yam Rice, Tau Kua Bun, Fried Tapioca Flour Noodles etc.

Cantonese love soup despite on whether sweet or savory soup and "Six Variety Herbal Soup - 六味汤" is one of those they have must have.

Teochew Cuisines from Chu Yi Kitchen Pte Ltd (Click HERE for details) where you get to taste all kind of Teochew cuisines.

Some examples of Teochew Cuisine are:- Deep-fried Prawn Roll (ngoh hiang), Omelette with Cai Por, Braised Pig Trotters, Fried Bee Hoon with Pork Strips and etc.

Hainanese Cuisines from Yeh Lai Siang (Click HERE for details) where you get to taste some local and Malaysian style Hainanese cuisines. Above are some of the cuisines and snack available during the buffet:- Hainan Yan Fen, San Jiao Guo, Chicken Intestine Fried with Pineapple, Curry and etc.

According to mum, grandpa whom is a Hainanese used to make this "Bo Luo Fen" for them during her childhood time. So while eating this dish, it does brings back lot of her childhood memories. The salted mustard green and peanuts add extra flavour and crunch to this simple noodle dish. Wonder can I replicate this dish at home for mum.......

Kew Gardens contributes all the Hakka cuisines and snacks where they also have a little setup on their stall demonstrating the making of traditional Hakka Abacus seeds.

Some examples of Hakka Cuisine are:- Mei Cai Kou Rou, Hakka Carrot Balls(they have braised and deep-fried, two types), Black Bean Kueh, Yong Tau Foo, Soon Kueh and etc.

Tai Jin Hai Seafood in-charge of the Cantonese cuisines where you can find all sort of sweet and savory items such as Egg Tarts, Yam Cake, Dumplings, Sweet & Sour Fish, Luo Han Zou and etc.

This pot of Pig Trotters with Vinegar was our favourite. It taste great where you can just drink the soup itself which is not over power by the black vinegar. Most of us take seconding helping for this dish.

After getting the food, guests can sit around the area provided at the end of the buffet line whereby they can enjoy the yummy cuisines and at the listens to those 50s - 60s oldies songs. Posted by Picasa

1 Altitude Gallery & Bar

In conjunction with National Day, One Rochester is giving away free tickets for members of the public to come up to 1-Altitude Gallery & Bar for “See It All, Singapore!” where everyone can come and enjoy panoramic views of Singapore like they’ve never seen before. Currently, 1-Altitude Gallery & Bar on 63rd floor is not open to members of the public for viewing, except only for patrons of the restaurant on 62nd floor and the sportsbar on the 61st.

Thanks to OpenRice Singapore who par-take this event with One Rochester to organise this Giveaway of 12 pairs of tickets to their Openricers and we are so lucky to be one of the participant who gets the ticket to this “See It All, Singapore!”. This will be the first public preview of the place and everyone are very excited to do it in conjunction with National Day.

Singapore CookOff @ Palawan Beach, Sentosa

The hit cooking competition has made it’s way to the shores of Singapore and yesterday I am so honour and delighted to be given a chance to check out this event in person at Palawan Beach, Sentosa where they have the live filming of Singapore CookOff show.

Thanks Bryan, Priority Consultants and Talya from SIS Sugar for their warm invitation to witness the live filming of FairPrice CookOff and at the same time participating in their Family Fun Day events.

Since we have to reach the filming site an hour before the starting time around 10.00am. We have to wake up rather early and be at the Sentosa Express station at Vivo City to board the express train to Beach station to get to the Palawan Beach.

We reached Palawan Beach around 9.00am and due to slight drizzling; the audiences are advice to stay in-door at the waiting area till the weather is better for filming. So while waiting, I went around to the check out some of the stands where they are doing some set-up before the event starts.

Around 10.00am, the producing crews are busying getting everyone and things ready for before the filming starts. Although the sky is still drizzling and everyone seems a bit unwilling to sit at the audience seats, but the assistance AP is very sweet and patient to settle everyone down in order to smooth the filming process.

Although this is not my 1st time viewing live filming but it is indeed another good exposure to witness live cooking show on the beach area. And perhaps it is also another eye-opening events for us to experience the "secret side" of the hosts and producers where they have to take about 30 minutes to film 10 minutes of clips with all the NGs and etc. We are also shock to know that for a normal 60 minutes TV shows, it actually took about 4 hours of shooting time.......

This program hosts by favourite local artiste Pornsak and international host Asha Gill where all the participated families will be put to the ultimate culinary test, to prepare three dishes with only 20 minutes for each. This exciting new cooking show coming soon to Channel 8 in Mid-October 2010

Each episode is film in 3 different interval where the participants have to cook a dishes based on the specify ingredients on each session. And during filming, each group is required to cook a dish within 20 minutes including: - preparation, cooking and serving. Too bad, due to the filming restriction, I cannot walk around and take better photos of the dishes.

These are the only two food photos that I managed to get a shot of from the participants of the two teams. The 1st photo on top is a sandwich with kiwi smoothie by red team while the 2nd photo is deep-fried shisamo with kiwi dipping sauce by blue team.

Guess what, Dr Leslie Tay, a very popular Singapore food blogger whom blog on "ieatishootipost" appears to be one of the judges for the CookOff show.

Other than watching the CookOff filming, we also had a great fun at those stands such as SIS Sugar where kids and adults can lay their hands on cupcake decorating. And there are also some food sampling, candy giveaways and live performances of the SIS Jingle Jam Contest too.

Others such as FairPrice stand comes with some kids face painting, free popcorn and games. And there are some fun arts and crafts at the Lam Soon stand, PERFECT ITALIANO's and etc too. Joyce also takes the opportunity to do some temp tattoo on her leg too :) Posted by Picasa
