JB (Johor Bahru) Food Trail, Malaysia

This June school holidays we did not managed to plan any overseas trips because our passport renewal was held up due to some delay. But after picking our new passport on the second week of June, we decided to join cousin and his family for an impromptu food and shopping day trip to Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia.

With a good itinerary and guide (cousin) that bring us around, we managed to conquer a few "must try" food places like Restoran Ya Wang, Hiap Joo Bakery, Hui Lau Shan, Cedar Point Food Centre and etc which you can check it out in this post.

[Day 1] Our Ultimate California + Las Vegas Trip In 2014

After months of planning and consideration, our family finally set-off for our first long haul flight to U.S. last December (2014) by joining the 14D11N Ultimate California + Las Vegas tour from Dynasty Travel. I still remember vividly during the preparations, we were worried about the traveling time, food, weather etc and moreover our tour only finalized two weeks before departure due to the dates and group size.

Looking back it had being almost 5 months since we returned from the trip but only till recently I have the time to go through those photos to compile the writeup.  I hope through these related posts I am able to share with you our wonderful memories and encounters during the 14 days west coast U.S. trip.

[Day 2] Pear Picking and Hsitou Monster Village, Taiwan

[Xiang Ye Orchard @ Zhuolan (卓兰)]
After a hearty lunch at Yehliu, our day 2 trip continued with pears picking at Xiang Ye Orchard (乡野观光果园), a stopover at Hsitou Monster Village (溪头怪物村) and lodging for the night at Sun Link Sea Resort. And since it takes some traveling time from Yehliu to the first destination most of us on board began to take a short nap in order to refresh ourselves.

One of the benefits of joining tour group is just like what my mum always said; we do not need to worry about the our 3 meals, transport and lodging. We can ease our mind, relax and enjoy the scenery along the way, get to try most of their tourists’ recommended food and stay in at least a 4 stars hotel.

[Xiang Ye Orchard @ Zhuolan (卓兰)]
After about an hour plus of coach ride, we reached our first destination at Xiang Ye Orchard. Although it was drizzling but it did not effect our mood and everyone was still full of excitement to explore the orchard as well as the pear picking.

[Day 2] Exploring Jiu Fen Old Street and Yehliu Geopark, Taiwan

Day 2 of our Taiwan trip features places like Jiufen Old Street (九份老街), Yehliu Geopark (野柳地质公园) and Hsitou Monster Village (溪头怪物村) where we sit back and enjoyed the coach rides that bought us around the attractions. And moreover going with familiar group of tour mates (almost the same group of people from our previous Taiwan trip) and guide also makes planning of the itinerary much easier during the whole road trip.

[Day 1] Our Family Trip to Taiwan 2013

Our recent family trip to Taiwan in June (2013) was rather impromptu because when I received the itinerary I was quite hesitate to go.  Is like base on what I read through, almost half of the "attractions" mentioned were those that we had already visited during our 1st Taiwan Trip in  2010. But to think about it, going for a long trip with mum's siblings (uncle liang, aunty lily and her husband)  whom I am close with since young make it still a good reason for us to revisit those places again with them.

So on 13 June 2013, together with twenty over tour mates plus our group of six we begin our journey to Taiwan again.  And since this is a round the island trip, we will be visiting towns like Taipei (台北市), Taichung (台中), Nantou (南投), Kaohsiung (高雄), Taitung (台東), Hualien (花莲) and Yilan (宜兰) during the eight days.

Tim Ho Wan (添好運) @ Hong Kong Station Podium Level 1

Before visiting Hong Kong I have heard so much about their local food as well as one of their well-known dim sum restaurant; Tim Ho Wan which launched their first outlet in Singapore (Plaza Singaura) last year as well as a second branch at Tao Payoh lately. So when we happened to see their outlet at Hong Kong MTR Station (initially we intended to go to their branch at Sham Shui Po (深水埗) but it's too far out from our schedule as we only have limited time before departure), we decided to take the opportunity to try out some of their items since the queue there is definitely shorter than Singapore.

It is a posh restaurant that furnished in 1950s themed with warm lighting, dark wood floor and furniture that brings you back to Victorian era. [Day 2] Exploring Hong Kong Disneyland ( 香港迪士尼乐园) - Part II

After our Greet-And-Meet breakfast session with Disney Characters at Enchanted Garden (Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel), we took the park shuttle service back to Disneyland to continue our adventure with the rest of the attractions apart from what we had on Day 1. And with some planning on the night before, I have already listed down the attractions that we are going to "conquer" with the help of the Disneyland FASTPASS to cut down the waiting time on those popular attractions.

[Day 2] Breakfast Plus Meet-and- Greet with Disney Characters at Enchanted Garden Restaurant (翠乐庭餐厅)

Meet And Greet With Disney Characters
Although I have being to other Disneyland theme parks in Paris and Tokyo but this is my very first time having meal together with Disney Characters like Mickey, Daisy, Pluto and etc. And honestly we were all very excited about today's breakfast even way before we came to Disneyland, Hong Kong (香港迪士尼乐园).

Above is our family photo taken with Mickey during the Meet-and-Greet Disney Characters Breakfast Buffet at Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and I am sure it will bring back many good memories of our Disney breakfast experience even after many year later.

Hong Kong Disneyland
Finally after a few hours of flight from Singapore, sourcing our way from airport to Disney's Hollywood Hotel (our first time to Hong Kong) plus an enjoyable Disney characters themed lunch at Crystal Lotus (晶荷轩) now it's time for the main highlight of our trip. From this moment onwards, we are going to explore the Magical kingdom - Hong Kong Disneyland to its fullest.

Between since we arrived quite late after lunch during the first day, I will featured and shared their 7 Main themed attractions, food and beverage as well as some tips to get around the park in two separate posts.

[Day 1] Lunch at Crystal Lotus (晶荷轩), Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel

Disneyland Themed Dim Sum @ Crystal Lotus (晶荷轩)
Our first meal in Hong Kong is at Crystal Lotus (晶荷轩) that is located in Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel serving award-winning Chinese cuisines with a unique Disney touch and Disney Signature Dim Sum. From what I Google through websites and reviews, the restaurant is always fully book during weekends or peak period so it will be advisable to make your reservation at least two days to a week ahead or book through the hotel when making your room reservations to avoid disappointment.

[Day 1] Weekend Getaway To Hong Kong Disneyland

[Hong Kong Disneyland - Disney's Hollywood Hotel]
Our recent trip to Hong Kong Disneyland during September school break was rather an impromptu decision but we did have a wonderful weekend there. And since it was our first visit plus free and easy trip in Hong Kong I was feeling rather insecure with things like our baggage and moving around in Hong Kong from one place to another.

But thanks God, everything went on smooth and it is much easier than what I have expected to explore Hong Kong with its efficient transport systems like Taxi, Airport Express and MTR and etc. So in my Hong Kong Travelogue posts I will share with you our itinerary to the Magical Disneyland together with transport, food and hotel details throughout the subsequent post which I hope it will help to ease your planning if you are heading there soon.

[Day 5] Bangkok International Airport (Suvarnabhumi)

After enjoying four days in Bangkok, it's time for us to go back to Singapore. Although this trip might be short as compared to our initial plan of 7 days but everyone of us are satisfy with the itinerary. And I really miss all the delicious Thai cuisines and street snacks that we have tried, and not to forget my favourite Mango Sticky Rice (photo above) which I have it every day during our trip.

Honestly revisiting Bangkok after 5 years does bought back many memories from our first trip. Like the Siam Ocean World, Chatuchak Weekend Market and Mahboonkrong (MBK), they are still looking good with some familial shops and eateries when we last visited them..

[Day 4] Lunch At Secret Garden, Thai Cuisine And Bakery

Day four was rather a shopping spree where we do last minute shopping before catching our flight back to Singapore on the next morning.  So after our morning breakfast at hotel, we decided to go Central and Platinum Mall via the BTS before setting our lunch at Secret Garden Thai Cuisine which is located at Sathorn Road.

[Day 3] Chao Phraya Princess II Dinner Cruise, Bangkok

On Day 3 evening of our Bangkok trip, we booked a Dinner Cruise for Chao Phraya Princess II via our hotel concierge and they even arrange a van picked up from our hotel to River City Pier. Upon arrival, the driver bought us to the check-in counter to collect our boarding tickets and stickers for the cruise.  After which we waited for quite sometime (it's slightly behind schedule) before the cruise arrived at the pier and the queue was rather chaotic with everyone pushing just to get aboard first.

[Day 3] Afternoon Tea At Agalico, Bangkok

Agalico has been around for over a decade and it is owned by Thailand's most prominent landscapist and interior designer, ML Poomchai Chumbala, whose famous works include the exquisite gardens of Mrigadayavan Palace in Hua Hin. Other than in-door dining, Agalico also has a well-designed topical garden with gazebos, siting area, birds, flowers, fountain and etc for guest to enjoy an idle afternoon with exquisite tea and desserts.

After our visit to Siam Ocean World we decided to take a train ride to Thong Lo where Agalico is just 5 - 7 minutes walk away from the station. I have being looking forward to visit this cafe ever since my brother shared his photos with me during his last visit.
