[Review] Ramen vs Tendon; Tori King, Lobster King & Tendon Ginza by Keisuke

Over the years, the huge number of ramen shops sprouting up around Singapore has proved its charm to the local. This Japanese style noodle is not only delicious but also relatively affordable where it comes with thick and rich broth made using either pork bones, chicken or even lobsters.

In this post we will be sharing our verdicts on two ramen and a tempura tendon outlets by Keisuke brand that we had visited recently.

RAMEN KEISUKE TORI KING

Ramen Keisuke Tori King is the 3rd outlet by Keisuke Ramen group which is located at 100AM (at Tras Street Road). This outlet is specialise in chicken ramen with its exclusively chicken-based broth and grilled chicken thigh. Besides this outlet you can also find Keisuke Tonkotsu King along the same stretch at Orchid Hotel serving pork bone based broth.

[Tori King] Ordering Slip

[Tori King] Complimentary items
While in the queue we were given an ordering slip to select our choice of ramen vary from original chicken broth to either black (black pepper) or green (wasabi) spicy broth. And upon seated you can find free flow of complimentary hard-boiled eggs and seasoned beansprouts. oh ya not to forget you can also grind some sesame seeds to add into your soup to enhance the taste.

[Tori King] Black Spicy Tori King Ramen (SG$16.90)

[Tori King] Tori King Ramen (SG$15.90)
Both order of Tori King Ramen (with all toppings) shown above comes with a tender and delicious grilled chicken thigh, chashu, seaweed and a flavoured egg. Both the soup broth are thick and rich except there is black pepper garlicky sauce added for the Black Spicy Tori Ramen. So for those who prefer lighter broth like me, the thick collagen broth serve here might be a little to rich to digest.

[Tori King] Grilled Chicken Thigh
From what I Google their grilled chicken is being boiled for almost an hour then submerged overnight in soy sauce before it is grilled and serve together the ramen. No wonder the meat is so flavoursome and tender which requires minimize chewing.

[Tori King] The lunch hour queue
Even though the standard might be slightly different when compared to those outlets in Japanese I think it is still a good experience to try Ramen from a renowned chef whom had won several ramen competitions. The place is often packed with long queues during lunch or dinner hours so do be there early or else be prepared to wait for at least 30 minutes or more.

RAMEN KEISUKE LOBSTER KING

Have you ever being craving for ramen in the middle of the night? If yes, you can now checkout this latest ramen outlet owned by Chef Keisuke. Ramen Keisuke Lobster King is located at Clarke Quay just beside the new Zouk opening from 6.00pm - 5.00am in the morning.

Ever since it opened from February till now the snaking queue of waiting time can be as long as an hour or more. We waited almost 2 hours before our turn during one of the weekend evening even though we arrived at 5.45pm (opens at 6.00pm).

[Lobster King] Ordering Slip
This new outlet is specialize in Lobster broth ramen that is available in 4 different styles such as clear, thick, miso or spicy shown on the ordering slip above.

[Lobster King] Complimentary items
Similar to Tori King concept, there is also free flow of complimentary hard-boiled eggs and seasoned beansprouts available on each table.

[Lobster King] Green Tea Cola (SG$4)
First time having their Green Tea Cola and we love its refreshing taste which is somehow similar to 7-up. But for your information this sweet and fizzy drink has no hint of any green tea taste despite of its name.

[Lobster King] Pork Gyoza (SG$8.80/plate of 5 pieces)
Wanted to try their Beef Tataki but it was sold out so we go for optional 2; Pork Gyoza instead. Slightly pricey for 5 gyoza but luckily the crispy base and flavoursome filings still worth the penny.

[Lobster King] Spicy Miso Ramen with All Toppings (SG$21.90)
We had Spicy Miso Ramen with all toppings which includes seaweed, bamboo shoot, prawn wanton, deep-fried prawn ball, black fungus, pork & chicken chashu as well as flavoured lava egg. The thick and rich soup broth is cooked using French rock lobsters together with herbs and vegetables at a simmer of at least 8 hours and more.

Verdict: On the first few sips of the broth it taste almost like lobster bisque or rather a thicker version of our local "prawn noodle soup". But as half way down some might find it too rich and greasy to finish the whole bowl. Furthermore we felt the accompany chilli seems to be lack of "fiery" punch despite it stated as "spicy".

[Lobster King] Stir-fried Mushrooms with Garlic & Butter (SG$8.80)
This stir-fried mushrooms was a hit because it goes very well with steamed white rice (SG$2) which balances its savory taste and the garlicky butter sauce also makes it so appetizing with rice.

A video clip on our visit to Lobster King Ramen.

TENDON GINZA ITSUKI

Tendon Ginza Itsuki is the eighth new concept outlet by Ramen Keisuke's located at Tanjong Pagar area. This new 24-seater outlet offers two types of tendon such as Special and Vegetable which served with steamed egg (chawanmushi) and miso soup.

We ordered one each of the following:
Special Tendon (SG$13.90) serve with prawns (2 pieces), chicken (2 pieces), vegetables (4 pieces) and a fried tempura egg;
