Exploring The Convenience Stores and Bakeries In Tokyo, Japan

Whenever we travel to a country, we love to visit their convenience stores to see what special food/beverages or stuffs they offered in it. And since Korean, Japan and Taiwan all have convenience stores like Seven Eleven (7-11), Lawson and Family Mart it makes us thrilled whenever we visit these stores because we could often find similar stuffs that we tried and miss having it.

I am not sure about your habits, but for us we always like to stock up some bites and beverages from these convenience stores for our bus journey as well as supper in the hotel room. And as you view through this post, you could find all kinds of food and beverage they offer in the stores as compared to what we have in Singapore.

Happy Egg-Citing Easter!

Received some hot cross buns as take home gift after our church service this morning. So without hesitate, I decided to use it to make an Egg-Citing Easter Bento for my boy's lunch. To enhance the bento with Easter mood, I decorated it with some "chicky" design such as hen, chick and heart-shaped egg using his favourite quail eggs.

Rejoice And Celebrate!!!! Here we wish everyone a wonderful and blessed Happy Egg-citing Easter! Cheer, remember to hut for more bunny and eggs..........

BreadTalk's Unveil The Generation4 Concept and New Menu Highlight

Since its inception in 2000, BreadTalk has continuously honoured the art of bread-making by giving life to its novel creations. Over the last 12 years it has been encapsulated through three distinctive Generations. And now, BreadTalk is proud to unveil the Generation4 Concept, championed in the campaign ‘Get Talking’, a global initiative that aims to alter the way customers see, feel and taste the brand.

“Get Talking” showcases multiple changes such as the exciting Euro bread series with a twist of Asian flavours like drunken longan, black sesame, spinach and sweet potato. On top of it, BreadTalk also introduced their new toasts like Chia Seed Toast, Soya Toast and Pumpkin Toast which have recently been awarded the Healthier Choice Symbol by Singapore’s Health Promotion Board (HPB).

BREADTALK'S NEW TOAST

Chia Seed Toast - 亚籽土司 (S$3.60, 4 slices) is one of their HPB Healthier Choice toast which is generously filled with Chia seeds that provides high fibre and Omega-3 as well as zero trans fats and cholesterol. With two slices a day, it provide you with 44% of your daily whole-grain requirement too.

Apart from Chia Seed Toast, there are another 2 new toasts on shelf which are Pumpkin Toast - 金瓜土司 (S$3.40, 4 slices) and Soya Toast (S$3.60, 4 slices). Out of these 3 new items, our family favourite is the soft and fragrant Soya Toast which is made with golden soya flour, whole eggs and butter.

While enjoying all the healthy toasts from BreadTalk, my boy also love to collect their cute and innovative "name tag" that tied together with the Toast packaging. Guess from these tags you could spot our favourite "Toast" too!

BREADTALK ASIAN FLAVOUR

Claypot Chicken - 沙锅鸡 (S$2.00) is made with bamboo charcoal infused bun which resemble black colour "claypot" which wrapped up the unique fragrant threecup chicken fillings together with fresh basil to excite your taste buds.

Yam Tornado - 山药棒 (S$2.00) comes in a spiral-like bun which filled with Chinese yam paste that brings up it's natural sweetness on eat bite. To add extra crunch, almond flakes are also added as topping and bake till golden brown.

BREADTALK EURO BREAD SERIES

Spinacheese - 芝士波霸 (S$2.50) is a signature item of BreadTalk, this savory Cheese bread receives a healthy serve with the addition of Spinach in the recipe which makes eating vegetables a delicious treat for non-veggie lovers.

Sausage On French - 法式香肠 (S$2.20) has a nice golden and crispy crust that combined generous amount of herbs, spices and meat in one. It consists mixture of Chicken Sausage Filling, diced onion, shredded Cheddar Cheese, Black Pepper and Oregano Herb. This is best to be eaten slight warm in order to enjoy the soft and fluffy texture of the bread.

Drunken Longan (S$3.50) sounds and look good but personally I found it a bit tough and dry towards my preference. Perhaps I still cannot get use of this fused bread with added Chinese ingredients. I still I would still prefer my cranberry or walnut bun.

Cranberry Country makes every bite a crunch with cranberry in between the wholesome bun.  A healthy alternative that retains the natural sweetness of the berries.

Sweet Potato Pot - 金盆甜薯(S$1.80) is always one of my favourite pick other than Berries and Walnut when I am looking for crusty bread in BreadTalk. I love the nutty crust that is coated with fragrant sesame seeds and it taste absolutely delicious when it is freshly out from the oven.

BREADTALK ONLINE COMPETITION

In like with BreadTalk new Generation4 concept, BreadTalk has also commissioned a microfilm that unveils the new brand concept via a whimsical tale between a baker and customer. The microfilm (you can watch the film here) will be shown globally across various platforms as part of its integrated digital campaign, i.e. high traffic websites, social media channels and at selected BreadTalk retail spaces with broadcast facilities to elevate and share the brand experience.

Viewers are warmly welcomed to participate in an online contest to craft the ending of the microfilm through the use of manga storyboards. The online contest will be held at the microsite, www.gettalking.com.sg from 5 October 2012 to 2 November 2012 with attractive prizes such as iPad2, Beats Studio Over-Ear Headphones and other prizes up for grabs.

Lastly to celebrate this new interactive application, BreadTalk is giving away a complimentary S$2.00 e-voucher to the first 1,000 customers who download the BreadTalk app on their iPhones and iPads.

Cheesy Mayo Tuna Toast

Sometime when I am rushing for time or we are bored with the usual rice or porridge dishes for lunch, I would grab a loaf of thick toast or baguette together with a can of tuna to make this Cheesy Mayo Tuna Toast. For this recipe I used PurpleBerry bread which I have found at one of the bakery near our area. We love the taste fruity fragrant of the bread as well as it natural purplish colour.

CHEESY MAYO TUNA TOAST

Often I love to use Tuna Chunk to mix together with some Japanese Mayonnaise and chopped shallot/onion. And in order to make it look more appealing I would do an open face sandwich which look more classy like cafe style. So even though this is homemade but with some quick adjustments and effort we could also serve cafe style brunch at home for our loved ones too!

(Serves: 2Preparation: 10 minutes |  Baking: 3 minutes)

Ingredients:
2 - 4 Pieces of Thick Toast
1 Can Ayam Brand Tuna Chunk In Olive Oil, drained
2 Shallot, finely chopped
1.5 Tablespoon Japanese Mayonnaise
1/4 Teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper
Some Cherry Tomato, halves
Shredded Cheese

Method:-
1. Drain tuna chunk, pour it in a s small mixing bowl together with chopped shallot, mayonnaise and black pepper till well combined.

2. Spread the tuna mixture evenly among the bread slices, top with cherry tomato and shredded cheese.

3. Baked in a toaster oven for about 3 - 5 minutes till cheese melt and slight golden in colour.

4. Remove garnish with some parsley flakes and extra mayonnaise and serve immediately.

Tip:
~ You could use any tuna of your choice for this recipe.

~ Mayonnaise could be omitted for healthier choice.

Homemade Granola By Maameemoomoo

Granola is a popular breakfast choice or snack in western countries. It usually consists of rolled oats, nuts, honey and sometime dried fruits such as raisins, dates and etc are added to it. Recently one of my bestie Sherie, from Maameemoomoo is selling her homemade Granola (read more here) to friends and readers who loves this delicious breakfast snack.

As you can see from the photo above, Sherie is very generous with her Granola ingredients and you can easily spot Rolled oat, almond, cashew nut, sesame seed, cranberry, wheatgerm, Flaxseeds and even wolfberries! Occasionally, Sherie would also add in a "surprise" ingredients on top of the usual ones to surprise the customers too. And guess what I think I found dried Jack fruits in my recent pack that I have purchased :p Below are some of the ways that I have incorporate these delicious healthy snacks into my daily meal.

{For Breakfast/Dessert/Snack} You could serve Granola together either Oats Porridge or Plain Yogurt (such as Greek Yogurt). I love mine with either homemade (recipe) or store bought yogurt from Yogurt Place, Yammi Yogurt or etc.

{For Breakfast/Snack}This is super yummy! I love to scatter some Granola on top of my Peanut Butter Toast for that extra crunch and texture. Imagine biting the crust of the thick toast with generous spread of peanut butter together with those crunchy oats and almond....... Yummy!

{Salad} Instead of adding Crouton (small pieces of sauteed or baked bread) to your usual salad, why not try to add in one or two tablespoon of Granola plus some strawberries or orange segment to perk up your lunch diet. I love the mixture of the greens, with juicy fruits and crunchy bits of tasty Granola.

{Dessert}Trust me, if you have not try adding Granola to ice-cream before, you have to try this. The sweet, smooth and icy ice-cream makes it a prefect match to go with the Granola which is a tiny bit of salty plus caramel flavour from the honey. Great match!

For those who are new to Granola, perhaps you could go for the "Try First" pack at S$9.90 weighing 320g.

This is the "Wah, I like!" pack at S$15.90 weighing 500g with huge arse juicy figs, weight (80-90g) excluded from the 500g weight.

GRANOLA In 3 sizes:

~ Try First : S$9.90 per 320g pack

~ Wah, I like! : S$15.90 per 500g pack
(with huge arse juicy figs, weight (80-90g) excluded)

~ I want moreeeeee! : S$29.90 per 1kg pack

{To Order} You can email Sherie, maameemoomoo@gmail.com for more details, or you could check out her post on Granola HERE. Till then, have a great weekend everyone!

{Food Art} Froggy Breakfast Set

Recently I got a box of LunchPunch sandwich cutters which comes in a set of 4 different patterns. There are 5 different themed of LunchPunch cutter whereas mine is the "Sand*wishes*" themed which consists of cute "fairy princess" with a cut out star and "frog prince" with the removable crown and etc.

SAND*WISHES* CUTTERS
(product from LunchPunch)

Since it is during mid-year school holidays, where I do not need to rush madly to prepare our daily breakfast,  I can spare some extra "5 - 10 minutes" doing out some "cute" breakfast like the above. And at the same time I can do it together with my kid to create parent bonding time where he can helps me to cut out some of the shapes and arranged the food on the plate.

(Serves: 1 |        Preparation: 5 - 7 minutes |         Cooking: 5 minutes)

Ingredients:
2 Slices of Plain Or Wholemeal Sandwich Bread
1 Slice of Breakfast Ham
1 Slice of Sandwich Cheese
1 Cherry Tomato, halved
1 Hash Brown or Some Potato Gems
Some Whole Walnuts, toasted
Some Salad Green, optional

Method:-
1. Either blanch the ham in hot water or lightly fry it on a pan for 10 seconds on each side. Remove and set aside.

2. Using your desire LunchPunch cutter (i choose the frog prince), punch out the "frog" shaped on each slice of bread as shown above.

3. Next adjust the crown of the "frog prince" cutter to fix the sandwich cheese and cut out a "crown" and "legs" to fix it on 1 slice of the frog shaped bread.

4. Repeat the same process using the cutter to cut out "mouth" and "legs" from the ham using the help of a toothpick or food stick to outline the cut out. (refer to the step-by-step photo above)

5. Lastly assemble the sandwich and place all the leftover pieces of ham and cheese between the two slices of frog shaped bread.

6. Arrange the tomato halves and features of the frog and serve it on some salad green together with toasted walnuts, hash brown and a glass of milk/coffee/tea.

Sometime with just a little more effort everyone can turns simple ingredient into something appealing like cafe style breakfast set! Look the above Froggy Sandwich Set, isn't it adorable and close to cafe standard of their Kid's Breakfast Menu. I am sure you won't resists to order one of this, right?
