Homemade Granola - 格兰诺拉麦片

Homemade Granola
In the recent years, Granola has becomes a popular breakfast choice or snack food around the world. This healthy snack consists of rolled oats, nuts and honey which usually baked until crisp then  add-on with dried fruits mixture. You can either have it on its own or combine with yogurt, honey and fresh fruits such as strawberries and bananas. Beside that soaking them in cold milk or use as topping for desserts like ice-cream or parfait are great ideas too.

Homemade Granola
I came to know about Granola from Sherie (maameemoomoo) two years back where I used to order these delicious breakfast packet from her because I love to include these yummy snack in my daily food routine such as toast, yogurt and etc (how to eat granola - read more here).

Recently I was inspired by Maryann's (@tubbykat) Instagram post on her homemade granola for teacher's day presents to make my very first batch of granola using organic coconut oil and honey together with rolled oats, nuts and dried fruits.  I am glad that I gave this a shot because it was actually easier than I thought plus I could also add in whatever combination of ingredients which I prefer with either more nuts / dried fruits of my choice.


(Yield: 1 Litre Jar | Preparation: 5 minutes | Baking: 30 minutes)

Ingredients:
  • 2 Cups Organic Rolled Oats
  • 1 Cup Mixed Nuts and Seeds
  • 1/2 Cup Mixed Dried Fruits
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Sea Salt Flake
  • 1/4 Cup Organic Coconut Oil
  • 1/4 Cup Honey

Method:
1. Line baking tray with parchment paper, lightly grease it with some coconut oil and set aside.

2. In a small saucepan, heat up honey and coconut oil over how heat till almost bubble. Remove from heat.

3. Toss rolled oats, sea salt, nuts (almond and pecan nuts) and seeds (pumpkin and sunflower seeds) in a mixing bowl then slowly stir in honey mixture till everything is well coated.

4. Spread rolled oats mixture on prepared baking tray and bake in preheated 160°C (Degree Celsius) oven for 30 - 35 minutes or until mixture is golden and slightly crunch (stirring every 10 minutes to achieve an even color).

5. Once it is baked, mix in the dry fruits (raisins, cranberry, blueberry and fig) then allow mixture to cool completely and store it airtight.

格兰诺拉麦片(Granola)是美国人喜爱的一种谷物类零食或营养早餐种类之一。它的主要成分有燕麦片但也可因个人喜好添加其它配料如:杏仁,南瓜子,葵花籽,坚果粒,椰子干,蔓越莓,葡萄干等等。而且材料用少许的橄榄油和枫糖浆拌匀后经过烘烤也变的香脆及偏甜让人无法抗拒要多吃几口。

格兰诺拉麦片

材料:
2 杯燕麥片(rolled or old-fashioned oats)
1 杯混合坚果 (nuts and seeds)
1/2 杯干果 (dried mixed fruits)
1/4 杯有机椰子油
1/4 杯蜂蜜或枫糖浆

做法:
1.烤箱先预热160/170摄氏度,在烤盘上扑一层烘焙紙并抹上少许的椰子油,备用。

2.把燕麦片和混合坚果(杏仁,南瓜子,葵花籽,白芝麻)搅拌几次,然后倒入加热的蜂蜜和有机椰子在继续混合均匀。

3.将准备好的燕麦片铺平在烘焙紙送进烤箱烤30 - 35分钟,并在每10分钟后取出然后搅拌均匀才继续烘这样才容易使上燕麦呈现金黄色。

4,最后拌入干果(蓝莓,蔓越莓,葡萄干和无花果) 搅拌在放凉,待燕麦片变硬凝结后稍为剥碎即可储藏在密封罐里。

* 你可随意用自己喜欢的混合坚果和干果来搭配,但重量可要根据以上的数据。

Overnight Oats
Alternatively, if you prefer something easier to prepare without even using the oven but with equal nutritional value perhaps you might want to consider trying Overnight Oats which only requires a few simple ingredients such as rolled oats, milk and or yogurt, nuts and fruits. All you need to do is to "soak" all ingredients together overnight in the fridge and you get to enjoy a bowl of delicious breakfast the next morning.

So no matter which preparing methods you prefer I am sure Granola and Overnight Oats are both worth trying items on list.

  2. Must we use coconut oil? Can we use other type of oil in replacement (eg: Olive oil)

    1. Hi Elaine, yup you can replaced coconut oil with olive oil, grapeseed oil and etc. Depend on your preference. :)
