MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodle - 槟城白咖哩面

Penang White Curry Noodle
Do you know that the original Penang White Curry Noodle is actually “white” in colour and served together with ingredients such as tau pok (beancurd puff), cockles, cuttlefish and beansprouts. On top of that, there is also an accompany chilli paste on each table where the customers can top up any amount accordingly to their preferences to flavour the overall taste of the noodles.

So here is my version of Penang White Curry Noodle whipped up from the instant noodle pack which I bought recently.

PENANG WHITE CURRY NOODLES

Penang White Curry Noodle
Recently this Penang White Curry Instant Noodle has create a big craze over Malaysia and Singapore with limited stock available. And a packet of (4-in-1 pack) this cost between SG$4.20 - SG$4.50 depending on the outlets like GiantCold Storage and CK Departmental Store. Each packet comes with noodle and 3 sachets such as seasoning, creamer and chilli paste.

[Penang White Curry Noodle] Noodle, Seasoning Powder, Creamier and Chilli Paste

Ingredients:
  • 1 Packet MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodle
  • 1/4 Portion of Boneless Chicken Breast, poached and shredded
  • 4 Medium Cooked Prawn, shelled
  • 1 Hard-boiled Egg
  • Some Beancurd Puff (Tau Pok - 豆腐包)
  • Some Blanched Long Bean
  • 2 Tablespoon of Coconut Milk, optional

Steps to prepare the White Curry Noodles
Method:
1.Bring 380ml (increase or reduce of water will affect the taste of the soup broth) of water to boil.

2. Add in noodle and beancurd puffs, cook for 3 minutes.

3. Next add Seasoning Powder and Non-dairy Creamer (or 2 tablespoon coconut milker for thicker and creamier broth), stir till combine and remove mixture from heat.

4. Transfer noodle to serving bowl, topped with pre-cooked ingredients such as hard-boiled egg, prawn, long bean and shredded chicken as well as Chilli Paste (from the instant noodle packet).

5. Before eating, mix the accompany chilli paste with the noodle to create the curry gravy effect.

Tip:
~ Blanching Long Bean (cut into section) in boiling water with pinch of salt or 1/4 portion of chicken stock cube for 2 - 3 minutes till slightly soften.

~ Using same pot of water for blanching the bean, pooched chicken breast for 10 - 15 minutes depend on the thickness. Remove, shredded and set aside.

~ For a quick meal, you can just add everything into the pot and cook together with the noodles, but remember to sliced your chicken breast into strips so that it will cook together with the rest of the ingredients.

Alternatively to enjoy your meal in less than 10 minutes, you can also choose to add in all the ingredients and cook together within the pot rather than prepare them separately. Beside the mentioned ingredients, you can always add in whatever you have in the fridge accordingly to your preferences.

Overall after trying this Penang White Curry Noodle twice, it didn't really excite my taste buds or leave me with any "wow" factors on it's broth or noodle texture. The soup broth was rather salty and you would also feel thirsty after eating it, so we were wondering was there any MSG added in the seasoning? But if you are an instant noodle fans who love spicy food, maybe you could just get a pack to try out the taste too.

  3. This looks really really good and reminds me that I haven't had such a noodle dish for some time. That's a pity that you didn't find the taste as good as it looks - I had a similar experience in the past, I wanted to eat instant laksa and bought a quite well known Singaporean brand, but I was quite disappointed that it tasted rather bland overall. Thanks for revewing this brand though, so that we know what not to buy ;).

    1. Hi Cooking Gallery,

Emmm i guess food is rather subjective as some might find it good whereas other might not. But no matter what I guess instant noodles or products won't be as good as those freshly prepared type so cannot have to high expectation on it too :)

  4. Disappointed. The noodle is the worst I have eaten. The saving grace is the seasoning. Not worth the high rating.
