[New Cafes in Yishun & Sembawang] Holy Cow Creamery, Mootime, RoyceMary Cafe and The Daily Scoop

[Holy Cow Creamery] Waffle and Ice-Cream
Finally the wait is over because for those living in the North, especially Sembawang and Yishun, there is a new hipster cafe plus three creameries opening in these two areas. And with their convenient locations in the neighbourhood within schools, offices and residents, crowds will be coming in anytime of the day to chill up with friends or just enjoy a cup of coffee while reading a few good chapters in the afternoon.

In this post I would be sharing our dining experience and reviews after visiting these cafes but since three of them are still pretty new I think a second or third visit would be great in order to justify their service and food.

Beside that, I am also lucky to visit Liberty Coffee during their "limited" opening hours which happens to fall on Thursday, 22 May between 10am - 4pm.

Cakes + Coffee + New Friend @ One Man Coffee

[One Man Coffee] Flat White And Cappuccino
Depending on your purpose of visiting a cafe where some might just like to get a cup of coffee and enjoy quiet moment with 1 - 2 chapters from the book or flipping through your favourite magazine with sips of warm coffee. Whereas some might just fall for either cakes or pastry together with a cup of beverage to spend the afternoon.

Last week, I managed to met up with a new friend who always patronize One Man Coffee which is located at 215R Upper Thomson Road. This cafe might not be easy to find although it is near the main road because the actually co-share the premises with Crust (sells Pizza in the evening) so you might tends to miss out the signboard.

5 Assorted Chiffon Cakes Recipes - Part III

This is Part III (Part I and Part II) of my chiffon cake recipe posts and I hope you still managed to follow and not getting bored with it. Although there are still quite a few chiffon cake recipes which I would like to try and share with you but I think I will just stop at this post and experiment the rest perhaps in the next few months or so.

In this post, my favourite recipe is Matcha Azuki Chiffon Cake because it consists two of my favourite ingredients such as matcha and azuki bean. I love the unique matcha fragrance plus it blends well with the sweetness of the azuki bean. What about you? Any of your favourite is this post.

Steamed Coffee Cake

This is my first time attempting Chinese New Year steamed cake as compared to my usual new cookies and dishes. But since I wanted sometime fusion rather than the traditional Steamed Prosperity Cakes (Fa Gao - 发糕), I decided to use a sponge cake recipe and give it a twit by adding instant coffee powder and brown sugar to achieve a similar colour like Fa Gao.

On top of that, I also decorate it with some auspicious New Year wordings like 发财(Fa Cai), 福(Fu), 大吉(Da Ji) and etc by pipping outlines of the Chinese characters on it.

STEAMED COFFEE CAKE
(using Gold Kili Instant Double Shot White Coffee)

With some Gold Kili Instant Double Shot White Coffee Powder that I found in my pantry, I decide to add it into my sponge cake mixture to create our all-time favourite steamed coffee cake. The texture of these steamed cakes are very soft and fine which resemble those Japanese Steamed Cakes which are available in four leaves or some Japanese bakery.

(Make: 8  | Preparation: 10 minutes | Cooking: 12 - 14 minutes each batch)

Ingredients:

Method:-
1. Add all the ingredients into the mixing bowl and whisk using an electric beater on medium speed (speed 3) for about 6 minutes till mixture form ribbon trace when beater is lifted up from the batter.

2. Set aside 2 Tablespoons of the batter and coloured it with some red food gel till well mixed, spoon it into a piping bag and set aside.

3. Next spoon the coffee batter into another piping bag and fill each cupcake liner till 3/4 full.

4. Cut a small opening at the end of the red batter piping bag, make sure the opening is not too big or else the wording will be too thick.

5. Pipe some auspicious Chinese words on the prepared plain batter then arrange the cups in a steamer and steamed on medium high heat for 12 – 14 minutes depending on the size and heat.

Overall these cake are light in texture which filled with distinctive coffee flavour that make it a great snacks for the visiting guests during Chinese New Year. Imagine having this auspicious cake and wishing each other a prosperous new year with some "Lotus Seeds, Longan And Persimmon Sweet Soup".

Lastly I am submitting this post to Chinese New Year Delights 2013 hosted by Sonia aka Nasi Lemak Lover.

As we are in the month of December and Christmas is just around the corner I am sure you are into festive mood just like what we do too. And since pancakes are always one of our family's staple food which I would rotate different flavour at least once or twice a week, I decided to make something new for this festive season.
